Ashok Gladstone Xavier op bezoek bij CIMIC, maandag 17 maart
Op maandagavond 17 maart 2025 was Ashok Gladstone Xavier uit het Indiase Chennai (Tamil Nadu) te gast bij CIMIC. Hij houdt ons via deze nieuwsbrief regelmatig op de hoogte van wat er in het gigantische continent India gebeurt.
Een mooie groep lezers en belangstellenden kon Ashok bevragen over alle aspecten van de Indiase samenleving.
Welke rol speelt India vandaag op het wereldtoneel? Wat zijn de zorgen van de mensen? Is India nog een democratie? Hoe wordt er naar Europa gekeken? Welke richting gaat het met premier Narendra Modi en zijn uitgesproken hindoenationalistische politiek uit?
Wij kregen antwoorden die beklijven en nawerken. Het is duidelijk dat we aan een nieuw tijdperk begonnen zijn waarin onze oude ‘reddende’ of neerbuigende koloniale attitude contraproductief is. Ashok ziet ‘collaborative learning and sharing’ als een hoopvolle nieuwe uitdaging.
