EXPO: Tiende editie van ‘PhotoBrussels Festival’ / EMOP Brussels tot 22 februari 2026
In het kader van de Europese Maand van de Fotografie (EMOP), die grotendeels samenvalt met de maand februari, viert het PhotoBrussels Festival zijn tiende editie. Die brengt liefst 52 tentoonstellingen samen in de Belgische hoofdstad, gepresenteerd door hedendaagse kunstgalerijen, home galleries, kunstcentra en musea, die elk een uniek perspectief op het hedendaagse fotografisch medium bieden.
Meer dan 100 kunstenaars – waarvan de helft Belgisch – verkennen de rijkdom en diversiteit van een beeldtaal die diepgeworteld is in onze tijd en een steeds groter en nieuwsgieriger publiek bereikt.
European Month of Photography (EMOP)
The European Month of Photography (EMOP) is a network that brings together photography festivals held in various European capital cities. Established in Paris in 2004 alongside Berlin and Vienna, the network has since expanded to include additional partners. What unites these cities is their commitment to hosting photography festivals on an annual or biennial basis.
EMOP is dedicated to fostering and promoting a vibrant culture of photography festivals that has steadily taken root across Europe. The network extends beyond local contexts, highlighting the growing number of spaces devoted to photography – a defining visual medium of our time. These platforms continually explore and reframe the artistic and social dimensions of photography.
At the heart of the EMOP network lies the exchange of ideas around both historical and contemporary photographic art, the support of emerging international talents, and the visibility of photography through exhibitions and a variety of outreach formats.
Aim
The European Month of Photography Network aims to foster collaboration at the European level, strengthen the international photography community, encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience, and support emerging artists.
The outcomes of this collective effort are showcased through exhibitions and a variety of engagement formats within each participating photo festival. These may include publications, artist talks, panel discussions, and other forms of public programming.

About us
Created in 2016 at the initiative of Hangar, PhotoBrussels Festival aims to bring together, for one month, all enthusiasts, actors and professionals of contemporary photography.
Since 2022, a coordinating committee has been established to manage the organization of the festival and create synergy among the different participating venues. This committee is composed of: Atelier Contraste, box galerie Contretype, L’Enfant Sauvage, Fondation A Stichting, Hangar, La Nombreuse.
PhotoBrussels Festival is an event that establishes Brussels as an essential player in the international photographic scene and is part of the European Month of Photography (EMOP), a network of photography festivals present in various European cities, including Berlin, Lisbon, Luxembourg, Paris, Vienna, and Brussels.
PhotoBrussels Festival attracts a local audience (Brussels-Capital Region), Belgian and international visitors (neighboring countries), as well as photography professionals, collectors and art gallery and cultural center amateurs.
The festival stands out by focusing on contemporary photography and highlighting both emerging and established artists. It showcases the work of Belgian and international photographers, offering a multicultural perspective and a rich and exciting program for all audiences.
Over the course of one month, the festival serves as a platform for the exchange and confrontation of ideas. A wide-ranging program of exhibitions, workshops, conferences and guided tours takes place throughout the program, making it a must-attend event for photography enthusiasts.
By not limiting itself to a single exhibition venue, PhotoBrussels Festival allows visitors to discover different aspects of the city of Brussels while exploring photography. This provides a valuable opportunity for visitors and art enthusiasts from all around the world.
Ter gelegenheid van het 10-jarig bestaan: we vieren de Belgische scène!
Deze tiende editie van het PhotoBrussels Festival markeert een belangrijke mijlpaal in de geschiedenis van een project dat voortkomt uit een eenvoudige overtuiging: in België verdient de fotografie een centrale plaats binnen het hedendaagse culturele landschap.
Sinds het begin in 2016 heeft het festival zich tot doel gesteld de creatie te ondersteunen, nieuw talent te onthullen en de rijkdom van een bijzonder dynamische en internationaal georiënteerde Belgische fotografische scène te waarderen.
Tien jaar later heeft PhotoBrussels zich gevestigd als een belangrijk evenement voor fotografie in Europa. Elk jaar brengt het een breed publiek samen rond een veeleisend, divers en geëngageerd programma.
Via tentoonstellingen, ontmoetingen en samenwerkingen met instellingen, galerijen en kunstscholen heeft het festival bijgedragen aan de opbouw van een echt fotografisch ecosysteem in Brussel — een stad die zich vandaag profileert als een onmisbare culturele pool voor het hedendaagse beeld.
Voor deze jubileumeditie worden er 52 tentoonstellingen in de stad gepresenteerd, met bijna 150 kunstenaars — waarvan meer dan de helft Belgisch is en driekwart in België woont.
Deze uitzonderlijke aanwezigheid getuigt van de vitaliteit van de Belgische fotografische scène en de diversiteit van haar spelers. De tentoonstellingen vinden plaats op een grote verscheidenheid aan locaties — musea, galerijen, kunstencentra, alternatieve ruimtes en openbare plekken — en weerspiegelen zo de rijkdom en veelzijdigheid van het hedendaagse Brussel: een creatieve, inclusieve en voortdurend veranderende hoofdstad.
Het festival besteedt ook bijzondere aandacht aan de nieuwe generatie fotografen, wier vrijheid van blik en esthetische durf bijdragen aan de vernieuwing van het medium.
Deze jonge talenten, naast gevestigde kunstenaars, presenteren resoluut hedendaagse projecten die rechtstreeks inspelen op de grote vraagstukken van onze tijd: sociale veranderingen, milieuproblemen, en kwesties rond verbondenheid, identiteit en intimiteit.
Via deze veelheid aan benaderingen getuigt het PhotoBrussels Festival van een levendige, geëngageerde en veelzijdige fotografie — een fotografie die onze percepties bevraagt en de dialoog tussen culturen en generaties stimuleert.
Tien jaar na de oprichting blijft het festival zijn roeping bevestigen: een open, verbindend en ambitieus platform aanbieden, in dienst van de kunstenaars en de blik van het publiek.
