De dood van Rudi Friedrich (1963-2025) laat een enorme leegte achter


Connection e.V., de gespecialiseerde Duitse organisatie die wereldwijd dienstweigeraars en deserteurs juridisch en moreel ondersteunt, rouwt om het overlijden van haar medeoprichter, directeur en vriend Rudi Friedrich. Rudi kwam op maandag 14 juli 2025 tijdens een vakantie in Noord-Italië om het leven bij een bergwandeling in de buurt van het Comomeer. Toen een Italiaans bergreddingsteam hem terugvond, kon het alleen nog zijn dood vaststellen. Een in memoriam door Franz Nadler en Thomas Stiefel, Connection-medewerkers van het eerste uur.

The long arm of Asmara: riots in Tel Aviv between Eritrean dictatorship supporters and opponents

On Saturday [2 September 2023] there was a full-scale riot in Israel, with groups attacking each other with poles, bricks and anything else they could lay their hands on. The fighting on the streets of Tel Aviv left at least 160 people injured, with eight in a serious condition. Almost 50 police officers were also injured, most suffering from bruises and other injuries caused by stone-throwing.

Twee jaar na het begin van de oorlog: Connection e.V. en Pro Asyl bekritiseren de afwijzing van Russische dienstweigeraars

Twee jaar na de overval van Rusland op Oekraïne wijst het Duitse Bundeamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge (BAMF) nog steeds gevluchte Russische dienstweigeraars (zowel mannen als vrouwen) af en verplicht ze naar Rusland terug te keren. De Duitse middenveldorganisaties Connection e.V. en Pro Asyl zijn gealarmeerd door de motivering van het BAMF, dat het risico voor de Russische dienstweigeraars negeert om in een oorlog die in strijd is met het volkenrecht, te worden gerekruteerd.

Een ‘vergeten’ oorlog in Ethiopië blijkt wreder en dodelijker dan vele andere conflicten

Op 4 november is het precies twee jaar geleden dat de oorlog in Tigray, een regio in het noorden van Ethiopië, uitbrak. Wat begon als een intern machtsconflict in de complexe federale staatsstructuur van Ethiopië is ondertussen uitgegroeid tot een wrede oorlog die niemand spaart en waarbij alle betrokken partijen beschuldigd worden van oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid. Ook het dictatoriale regime van buurland Eritrea is zich in het gewapend conflict gaan bemoeien, met massale mobilisaties en nog meer militarisering van de samenleving tot gevolg.
